GBI is committed to supporting delivery of sustainable, healthy, and resilient commercial real estate. We are listeners and trend watchers providing education and accessible resources that future-proof assets while enhancing lives and communities.

GBI’s team of experts — through our Board, staff, and Assessors — are well-positioned to support our community as it navigates
the peak trends of this decade.

  • Our population is aging at an accelerated rate, resulting in an increase in new construction and major renovation of senior living and medical outpatient facilities. Healthcare portfolios require a unique approach to sustainability due to their complex systems and critical priority for patient health, safety, and comfort. Green Globes offers a tailored and comprehensive certification system that allows owners and healthcare providers to implement impactful sustainability features.

  • We are facing a housing crisis driven by limited supply and affordability. Fortunately, conversion and adaptive reuse projects are on the rise as we change how and where we live, work, and come together in a post-pandemic environment. The most sustainable building is the one already built, so the practice of conversion is inherently sustainable, albeit complex. GBI provides supplemental resources, like the profile of the Beehive project, to inspire and encourage building and material reuse.

  • The data center industry is experiencing unprecedented growth in a period of digital transformation and explosive AI demand.
The US data center market alone has doubled in size in just four years, according to a 2024 mid-year JLL report. Development will continue, as vacancy rates remain low, and demand continues to increase. GBI is a leading certifier of new data centers and supports improvement and third-party assessment of operational performance of legacy data centers. We lean in to help data centers meet their commitments to their communities while accelerating adoption of clean and renewable energy. It’s been a pleasure to help share success stories from this segment of the industry, such as Aligned, PowerHouse, Compass, and CyrusOne.

We are also proud to work with policymakers and witness the adoption of state and local incentives that promote energy efficiency, benchmarking, and meeting community sustainability objectives through use of third-party certification programs. As GBI moves through its 21st year, we will continue to convene and harness the collective strength of our community to increase our impact with GBI’s rigorous yet accessible tools, education, and standards.
